Calling Surface Characteristics: (various woods have their own sound qualities)
Glass over wood- this call produces clear yelps and purrs. Depending on the type of wood used in the soundboard, this call can be mellow or raspy.
Glass over slate- this call gives the perfect combination of both volume and rasp. It is a great all-purpose call that can make soft purrs or yelps and still pull off the aggressive cuts. This is the owners' preference.
Glass over glass- this call is crisp and clear. If you are looking for nice, strong yelps that imitate a young hen with attitude, this call is for you.
Crystal over glass- this call is the ultimate in distance getting. It'll reach out there on windy days like nobody's business. You'll get crisp, ringing yelps and cuts, but can still be played softly for seductive purposes.
Slate over glass- If you are looking for rasp, this is you're call. Made from Pennsylvania slate, it produces excellent purrs, clucks, and raspy yelps.
